According to FINRA’s Disciplinary Actions publication, Jennifer Joice Trowbridge (CRD #4310649) formerly registered with Questar Capital Corporation was suspended for two months and fined $10,000 for making unsuitable recommendations and effecting unsuitable sales and purchases in seven (7) customer accounts.
FINRA alleged that Trowbridge recommended a series of mutual fund switches in seven (7) customer accounts without reasonable grounds for believing that such transactions were suitable for those customers in view of the nature of the recommended transactions, the frequency of the transactions, and the transaction costs incurred.
FINRA further alleged that Trowbridge recommended that the client’s purchase Class A mutual funds, for which they paid commissions and front-end sales charges. She then recommended that the client’s sell those Class A mutual funds within only one (1) month to thirteen (13) months after purchasing them. Trowbridge allegedly then used the proceeds of the sales to purchase mutual funds offered by other fund families, causing the customers to pay additional commissions and fees. As a result, FINRA alleged that the customers paid nearly $60,000 in unnecessary commissions on these switch transactions.
According to FINRA’s Broker Check, Trowbridge is not currently licensed to act as a broker or as an investment advisor. The suspension is in effect from February 17, 2015, through April 16, 2015. (See FINRA AWC No. 2011025433902)
